Artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming increasingly prevalent in various sectors, including journalism.
This innovation has the potential to transform journalistic practices by enabling the generation of ideas, news articles, narratives, and other outputs through simple prompts and data analysis.
However, there is a lack of studies focusing on the perspectives of local journalists, particularly in Davao Del Norte, regarding the integration of AI in their profession.
This study aimed to explore the views of local journalists on artificial intelligence (AI) and its impact on traditional journalism. While some journalists see AI as a valuable tool for tasks such as grammar checking, idea generation, data gathering, and fact-checking, others expressed concerns about ethical implications.
Journalists are committed to upholding the values and ethics of their profession, which raises questions about the reliability of AI in the field of journalism. In addition to that, local journalists further revealed their disdain towards AI-generated journalistic content, as they view it as inauthentic and lacking in emotional resonance, for the reason that AI works with the algorithms of the user and it follows a certain format. This also amplifies their concerns about how AI has difficulties with generating local terminologies.
Overall, local journalists recognized the advantages and benefits of integrating AI, yet they remain cautious about fully trusting it for journalistic tasks due to these ethical concerns.
